ADHD Pathway

ADHD Pathway Process

Update August 2023: Due to a high demand for ADHD assessments, we unfortunately cannot guarantee acceptance of all referrals due to our psychiatrists availability. Thank you for your understanding.

Omega is excited to announce the introduction of our ADHD Pathway at our Springfield Central clinic for patients seeking an ADHD diagnosis who have not been previously diagnosed. This pathway will enable early assessment and diagnosis with post diagnostic support with a holistic approach. At present, due to the demand for psychiatric services, patients are typically waiting 6+ months for an initial assessment with a psychiatrist alone, so Omega is excited for this pathway to allow patients the opportunity for early diagnosis and treatment.

Pathway & Timeframes

  1. ADHD Nurse Practitioner Initial Assessment within 4-6 weeks of your referral being accepted by a psychiatrist.
  2.  Initial Psychiatrist Consultation within 5-6 months of seeing the nurse practitioner. (Dependent on your accepting psychiatrists availability)
  3. Standard Follow Up Psychiatrist Consultation. (4-8 weeks post initial psychiatry appointment, dependent on your treating psychiatrists discretion)
  4. (Required at your treating psychiatrists discretion) ADHD Nurse Practitioner Follow Up Consultation
  5. (6-monthly reviews as required) Standard Follow Up Psychiatrist Consultation

Important notes:
  • You are strongly encouraged to bring a family member or friend to your initial psychiatry appointment.
  • Please be aware that the nurse practitioner appointments are not billed under DVA and if you are a valid DVA card holder, you will need to pay the full fee for this.
  • The pathway is not appropriate for previously diagnosed ADHD patients.
  • The pathway does not guarantee an ADHD diagnosis – The assessment and diagnosis is only made by the treating psychiatrist.
  • The information collected during your initial nurse practitioner appointment assists the psychiatrist in making their assessment however the nurse practitioners do not diagnose ADHD.
  • An ECG & set of bloods is required before you are able to proceed with your initial psychiatry appointment. The nurse practitioner will organise for these to be done in your initial session with them.

If you would like to go down the ADHD pathway, please have your GP send a referral to admin@omegaclinics.com.au or via Medical Objects. Please be aware that due to the high number of referrals coming through, specialist availability is reaching capacity and we cannot guarantee acceptance of your care. Should your referral be declined for our services, we will advise you and write back to your referring general practitioner. We appreciate your understanding and will do our very best to assist.

If you have any questions, please call us on 07 3447 9090 and select option 1 to speak to one of our friendly Springfield Central admin team.
