MEDICARE SAFETY NET

The Medicare Safety Net provides patients with additional financial assistance for out-of-pocket costs for out-of-hospital Medicare funded services. The difference between the doctor’s fee and the Medicare rebate is the patient’s out-of-pocket cost.

The threshold is indexed annually from 1 January and operates on a calendar year, 1 January to 31 December.

Policy for Scripts, Documents & Non-Consultation Requests

We expect patients to be mindful to discuss with doctors any scripts and documentation they need, these things need to be addressed on the day of the appointment. Any out of allocated appointment requests cause disruption in the clinicians work and take extra time. We are hoping that patients will be mindful of this. We have implemented the below changes to streamline things for everyone.

  • Any scripts requested out of clinic hours will be charged at $50
  • Any documents requested out of the allocated clinic will be charged at $75
  • Doctors might request a brief phone call charged at normal consult rate to discuss the above, this will be at the discretion of the doctor
  • Patients who have not been seen in the last 3-6 months will require a regular appointment to discuss anything including renewals for scripts or reports.

We are not an urgent service; any urgent matter needs to be addressed with GP or patient needs to call helpline or present to Hospital.
